Mentor Arabia participated in the World Health Organization (WHO) Eastern Mediterranean Region webinar titled “Addressing Substance Use and Substance Use Disorders During Humanitarian Emergencies,” held on 17 June 2026 as part of the regional capacity-building workshop series on accelerating public health action on substance use.
The webinar convened leading experts from WHO headquarters, the WHO Eastern Mediterranean Regional Office, ministries of health, and public health professionals from across the region to explore the complex challenges associated with substance use and substance use disorders in humanitarian settings. Discussions focused on the heightened vulnerabilities faced by affected populations during emergencies, the intersection between mental health and substance use, and evidence-based strategies for prevention, treatment, and recovery support.
Participants also examined practical approaches for integrating substance use services into humanitarian response efforts, strengthening health systems’ preparedness and resilience, and ensuring continuity of care for vulnerable populations impacted by conflict, displacement, and crises.
Mentor Arabia’s participation reflects its ongoing commitment to advancing evidence-based prevention, strengthening regional knowledge exchange, and promoting comprehensive approaches that address substance use, mental health, and well-being, particularly in contexts affected by humanitarian emergencies. The webinar provided valuable insights and promising practices that can inform future prevention and capacity-building efforts across the Arab region.
