Based on the urgent need to confront the phenomenon of drug addiction and drugabuse in Lebanon, and out of concern for the development of national capacities to meet these challenges, Mentor Arabia and the Ministry of Social Affairs in Lebanon, with the collaboration of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the implementation of an effective training program aiming at developing the capacity of workers in social development centers affiliated with the Ministry of Social Affairs.

This training program, which will include all social development centers in different areas across Lebanon, seeks to increase awareness among the local community on the importance of drug prevention in order to reduce drug use through enhancing the efficiencies of workers in social development centers with life skills and training capabilities to enable them to serve their communities and face the phenomenon ofaddiction and drug abuse in an effective manner.

The first workshop on training skills and drug prevention was launched on January 14, 2014 in Beirut and included several sessions which dealt with all aspects of this topic. The workshop also included methods and techniques which focused on active interaction and exchange of ideas and ongoing analysis.

What is expected from this project is for workers in the centers of development in the Ministry of Social Affairs to do the tasks of guidance and awareness in youthcommunities and in society in general, and able to prepare and develop action plans and implement awareness-raising activities for drug prevention. In addition to organizing special seminars for parents to raise awareness and provide useful guidance on early detection of addiction and seek to overcome the obstacles that may face the parents and provide the necessary solutions to help them protect their children.
